Spirent TestCenter: What is the default traffic behavior when 802.1x is enabled?

Environment/Versions

  • Spirent TestCenter prior to 5.09
  • Spirent TestCenter 5.09 (Late April 2020 release)
  • 802.1x
  • Traffic behavior
  • ARP
Answer

802.1x has an existing function "Client traffic behavior" in the global settings. See below picture.

Spirent TestCenter versions prior to 5.09 has 2 items:
  1. "Start traffic only if all supplicants are authenticated"
  2. "Ignore supplicants that are not authenticated"
And default behavior is to "Start Traffic only if all Supplicants are authenticated"

enlightened Starting with Spirent TestCenter 5.09 (Late April 2020 release), 802.1x will include a new item:  "Start traffic as usual and ignore authentication"  and this new item will become the default behavior.
  • This new change makes total sense, so you can actually test the switch's ability to block traffic when the devices are NOT authenticated.
  • Using 5.09 to load a previous configuration requires a configuratoin reload to make this work - Refer to the following KB KNI16019
