How do I create a SimREPLAY/SimREPLAYplus scenario using SimGEN?

Answer

The SimGEN mode of PosApp allows the user to save scenarios as 'replay' scenarios (*.scn_replay extension) as well as SimGEN scenarios (*.scn extension). Once the scenario is saved in the 'replay' format it can be used with the SimREPLAY and SimREPLAYplus modes of PosApp too.

To save a 'replay' scenario with SimGEN:-

  1. Connect your SimGEN-compatible signal generator to the SimGEN Controller. SimGEN then checks the USB, Ethernet and IEEE-488 ports for an appropriately licenced signal generator. If SimGEN cannot detect a suitable signal generator, SimGEN will ask you to install a valid licence (see article SOL10422 for further diagnostics).

  2. If the licence has been authenticated SimGEN will allow you to select the scenario you want to convert / modify (this can be an existing SimGEN or replay scenario) or you can start with a new scenario.

  3. You can make changes to the scenario before saving or, if you've loaded a SimGEN scenario, just choose to directly save it as a replay scenario without making changes. However, it is important to note here that the scenario settings MUST match the signal capability of your SimGEN-capable simulator. This is a standard check that SimGEN makes before allowing a scenario to be saved (see article FAQ10991)
        - From this requirement it should be clear that you cannot create a scenario for a SimREPLAY / SimREPLAYplus system that involves signal types which your SimGEN-capable simulator does not support!

  4. When you are happy with the scenario go to menu [File-->Enter SimREPLAY Mode] to set SimGEN into SimREPLAY mode. See Figure 1.

  5. Then use menu [File-->Save as Replay scenario (.scn_replay)...] to save the scenario in the replay format. See Figure 1.
