Spirent TestCenter: How to reboot a chassis in a sync chain?

Environment/Versions

If we have 1 master chassis and 'n' slave, what is recommended order of upgrade/reboot if we have to perform maintenance?

  • Spirent TestCenter
  • Chassis chain

Answer

  • In a chain you’ll have the master (chassis1) -> slave (chassis2) -> … -> slave (end chassis X).
  • Chassis should be rebooted in order (must be top down in the order they are chained), starting from master, then chassis2, chassis3, …, the end chassis.
    • The first chassis should fully boot, controller LEDs should indicate master and in sync.
    • Once up, reboot chassis2 and wait till it fully boots and indicates slave and in sync, …
    • Only after all chassis are up and in sync, user can go ahead a reserve a port.
  • Once chassis and cards are in sync, a test module reboot or reserve/release will not make it go out of sync.
  • If a chassis is rebooted and not followed the procedure above, all chassis/cards in the entire chain may not be in sync.
