Landslide Release:

SMSF Testing

Like all previous generations of wireless networks, SMS continues to be a central functionality in 5G networks. In 5G, SMS can be delivered via IMS. Or it can be delivered over NAS via AMF. In the later case, SMSF is the primary network function responsible for this functionality. And SMSC is the other critical element that stores and forwards SMS messages. With 21.2, Landslide introduces extensive SMSF testing capabilities. SMSC emulation is a new license being introduced for this.

5G-RG emulation to test AGF is introduced. This is part of the Fixed Mobile Convergence story, as operators work to leverage 5G networks and unify their wireless and wireline services.
As with every release, several enhancements have been made to flagship applications such as AMF Nodal, AMF Node, various SBI Nodes and MME Nodal. These include the introduction of new procedures and enhancing key features such as AMF load balancing, iRAT mobility and VoLTE.

Usability enhancements continue with the addition of a new measurements tab, to display only KPIs with non-zero values.

One important point to note is that 21.2 will no longer support Ubuntu 14.04. It requires an upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 or preferably to Ubuntu 20.04.

Release 21.2
Key New Features

SMSC Emulation:

  • Tests SMSF
  • Support for positive and negative scenarios: Registration, Re-registration, Deregistration, and successful & unsuccessful MO & MT SMS is supported
  • Requires a new license

5G-RG Emulation:

  • 5G-RG & Access Nodes are emulated to test the AGF over V interface
  • Registration, Deregistration, PDU sessions establishment/release and service request are supported
  • User plane data also supported
Automated 4G E911 Compliance testing:
  • Following major network updates, regulatory requirements can mandate that an operator test emergency service from all or a certain percentage of cell sites. Typically, they have to send someone to these sites to conduct these tests. This feature automates this testing without requiring site visits, which can result in massive cost savings
  • Requires a new license
AMF Load Balancing:
  • This feature tests load balancing across TNLAs (Transport Network Layer Association) between gNB and AMF
512 User Accounts:
  • This is a new license that allows up to 512 user accounts to be created on the TAS. Note that this is not 512 active users
