Landslide Release: 21.6

Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF)

AI/ML is expected to play a critical role in 5G networks in order to manage complexity, make the most efficient use of resources and optimize network performance & subscribers’ QoE. Landslide 21.6 introduces the ability to test and emulate NWDAF. Within the 5G Core, NWDAF (Network Data Analytics Function) is a network function that employs AI/ML models. NWDAF performs analytics on the data fed to it by other network functions such as the AMF, SMF, and provides real-time insights, predictions, and suggestions. NWDAF use cases identified by 3GPP include predicting load, congestion, network performance, QoS, UE mobility, and anomaly detection.

The 21.6 release adds SMF Negative testing capabilities to SMF Nodal. The initial set of negative scenarios is focused on PDU Session Management. Overall, Landslide 21.6 continues to build on the CU Nodal test case for Standalone mode with the addition of more handover scenarios and support for Voice over New Radio (VoNR). Enhancements were also made to user plane testing functionality and strengthened capabilities to enable additional test cases within the newly introduced L5AP Security package.

Release 21.6
Key New Features NWDAF Test & Emulation: Options within SBA Nodal and Node applications to test & emulate NWDAF. The primary objective with this release is to establish the framework for NWDAF test & emulation. 3GPP specifies several use cases for NWDAF. Prediction of load is the 3GPP specified use case that is included with this release. Interfaces to AMF, SMF and NRF are supported. AMF asks for predictive load information from NWDAF which it provides based on data from SMF.

SMF Negative Testing: To supplement the AMF Negative testing capabilities already supported, 21.6 introduces SMF Negative testing. It adds options to Sequencer Mode of SMF Nodal to enable negative scenarios. Four negative scenarios around PDU Session Management are included.

CU SA Nodal: Several new procedures have been added, including additional flavors of handover (intra-CU handovers, NG handover) and VoNR support.

User Plane: Enhancements have been made to improve user plane performance with the introduction of the ability to use Fireball and non-Fireball modes concurrently in the same test server and same test case. Support for ABR video over QUIC in Fireball mode has been added.
