Announcing Spirent O-RAN Test Solution 23.4

O-RAN O-RU Release: 23.4

ORAN 23.4 continues to build on our O-RAN testing capabilities across all the network functions and configurations. This includes key capabilities such as user plane ciphering & integrity protection and emergency services for CU testing. For RIC testing, 23.4 introduces the O1 interface for non-RT RIC testing, while continuing to build on the E2 interface for near-RT RIC testing.

Spirent O-RU test solution version 23.4 is the industry’s first and only “wraparound” solution that enables you to perform application layer testing of the O-RU in an O-RAN architecture. All of the solution’s components are real-time state machine emulators that implement from the physical layer to the application layers in 3GPP. Using the O-RU test solution, you can benchmark O-RU performance under different conditions, configurations, and live scenarios.

Release 23.4
O-CU User Plane Cipher/Integrity
  • Allows users to test CU for user data ciphering and integrity protection
  • Associated control plane can be verified along with impact of cipher/integrity on throughput
Emergency Calls
  • Enables testing CU for emergency services
  • Includes emergency registration, VoNR call and location reporting for comprehensive testing
L5AP (CI/CD/CT) ph.3
  • 15 new test cases added to the growing L5AP CU test library
  • Accelerates testing and time to market with fully automated testing
RIC O1 Interface for non-RT RIC Testing
  • Allows users to test non-RT RIC for O1 interface from emulated CU/DUs
  • More comprehensive testing of non-RT RIC to complement the already supported A1 interface from emulated near-RT RIC

E2 Interface for near-RT RIC Testing
  • Adds CCC (Cell Configuration & Control) and RC (Radio Control) service models to E2 interface from emulated CU/DU
  • Extends the near-RT RIC testing capabilities with more comprehensive coverage of E2 interface

 
O-RU Support for 5G SA FDD for all O-RU test packs
  • All TIFG performance and functional tests, RF performance tests, Sensitivity tests, Near-Far dynamic tests, and advanced channel fading tests now support 5G SA FDD.

Details and plots in reports
  • All reports now include the results and plotting for the test.

Improvements to Near-Far test procedures
  • This release introduces improvements to the Near-Far test procedures, including the ability to reduce the power level until the call is dropped. You can now configure the following parameters:
  •  Start and stop power level
  • Step size
  • Duration for each level
  • BLER limit to stop the test
  • Number of iterations to finalize the result
O-DU RUsim Integration
  • Integrated Simnovus RUsim with O-DU WA test solution
  • The benefit includes
    • All software-based O-DU WA implementation, which is very flexible for deployment,
    • Cost-effective thanks to the all-software solution,
    • Very scalable since each RUsim can offer up to 128 UEs emulated.
External Data Capability
  • Provide real-world application tests, e.g. Facebook, TikTack, Google, etc., through RUsim to validate O-DU performance,
  • Landslide External Data feature is a mature product, which has been used by the industry for many years, proven to be stable, powerful, cost-effective
Multiple DU Nodal per TAS
The Landslide is enhanced to support up to 8 DU Nodals per TAS, reduces overall cost of the O-DU WA solution.
E2E External Data Capability
  • Provide real-world application tests, e.g. Facebook, TikTack, Google, etc., through UEsim to validate gNB performance,
  • Landslide External Data feature is a mature product, which has been used by the industry for many years, proven to be stable, powerful, cost-effective.
Multi-Cell Support for HO
  • Each UEsim can be connected with 2 cells to test HO performance of a gNB
  • Each UEsim can provide up to 256 UEs emulated,
Benefits: test open RAN inter-cell HO performance under controllable number of UEs in the network. The test is scalable and cost-effective.
