BRTU: Troubleshooting communication problems related to errors: SLOS, Communication Link out of service and IPNV, Invalid IP address entered.

Objective/Summary

This is for troubleshooting Ethernet connectivity issues between BRTU and NE when the SLOS or IPNV errors are encountered.  This applies only to TCP/IP connections to the Network Element.

Environment/Versions

BRTU: All versions

Procedure

These are troubleshooting steps.

  • Verify the NE address and port are correct and accessible outside of the BRTU.  RTRV-DB-TAU::<tid>:CTAG;
  • Change CTYPE from TELNET to SOCKET or SOCKET to TELNET.  If does not work, change to original setting.  ED-DB-TAU::<tid>:CTAG::CTYPE=<TELNET|SOCKET>;
  • Verify the subnet mask and gateway are correct on the BRTU.  RTRV-ATTR-IP:::CTAG;
  • Reseat the SCU card.  Slot 24 of the BRTU.
  • Verify the port on the switch is set for 10Mbs, full-duplex.  Auto-negotiate should be turned off.
  • Try a different port on the switch.
  • Verify/replace the Ethernet cabling.  J46 of the BRTU to the Switch.
  • Replace the SCU card.
  • Verify the buffer seting in the term server. (ie: in an Xyplex term server the default is 128 bytes, needs to be 4096 bytes to work)
