How to increase disk space on VDS/Velocity?

Objective/Summary
This article describes the steps to be performed if it is required to add more space to the VMs.
We recommend increasing the disk size based on the settings described in documentation for the Velocity version in use:
https://support.spirent.com/SpirentCSC/SC_KnowledgeView?id=DOC10663

Environment/Versions
Spirent Velocity & VDS

Procedure
  • Power off Velocity
  • Power off VDS
  • Go to your VMWare vCenter and right click on your VDS VM and select Edit Settings
  • Under Hard Disk 1 update the size of the disk.

  • Once the size has been modified, click OK and Start the VDS VM
  • Connect via SSH to VDS and check the size of disk space using command : df –h
  • If /dev/sda appears with the new value, then increase was successful.

Note: If you are using KVM as your hypervisor, the next steps are mandatory.
  • If the size of the disk space is the same as before the Edit step, when you connect via SSH to VDS, use below commands:
  • echo 1 > /sys/block/sda/device/rescan
  • xfs_growfs /dev/sda
  • check again the size of disk space using df –h

  • Perform same steps if needed on Velocity.
Notes
You cannot edit the hard disk size if you have an active snapshot of the VM !
