The Abacus 5000 supports WAV (Waveform Audio) audio file format for voice transmission functions, including quality assessment. The default WAV format is PCM, which is basically uncompressed sound data. Speech samples can be custom recorded – even using different languages. WAV file formats support various bit resolutions and a number of compression formats including µ-law, A-law, IMA, ADPCM, and MPEG. WAV file formats supported by Abacus 5000 include 8-bit µ-law and 8-bit A-law. The maximum sample period for PSQM is 262 seconds; for PESQ, the maximum sample period is 8 seconds.
