What is the difference between Functional, performance and Maximum mode on the Avalanche 3100BGT?

Answer

Functional Mode (default)

  • All available 10 GbE test ports are enabled. 3 CPU cores mapped to each port for 4x10G ports
  • Each 10 GbE test port can operate as a client or server.
  • This mode provides the lowest performance.

Performance Mode
  • Two 10 GbE test ports are bound together to achieve better performance. 6 CPU cores mapped to each of 2x10G ports. The first 10 GbE port in the set is enabled, and the other is disabled.
  • The enabled 10 GbE test port can operate as a client or server.
  • This mode provides a higher performance level than Functional Mode.

Maximum Mode

NOTE: This mode is supported only on the CEE-3100-xxxxx appliance (3100B series) with any 4 x 10 GbE test port configuration.

  • Four 10 GbE ports are bound together to achieve the highest performance. 12 CPU cores mapped to 1x10G port.  The first 10 GbE port in the set is enabled, and the other three are disabled.
  • The enabled 10 GbE test port can operate as a client or server.
  • This mode provides the highest performance.

For further information on how to configure each mode please open the online help in the Avalanche GUI by hitting the F1 key and searching on "Enabling Performance Mode on Appliances?
