For VoIP voice testing, there a choice of QOM (PSQM or PESQ) and Packet only path confirmation. What is the difference between these two choices of voice testing?

QOM testing is a more comprehensive testing of the voice quality on VoIP application. Here users can define the audio wave file to be used. They system will then encode the audio file into the designated format (codec) and sent in the form of RTP to the destination. At the destination, the packets are re-assembled and decoded using DSP to re-construct the result audio. This is then compared with the send (original) wave file for any degradation and a score is reported. In the case of packet only path confirmation, user’s audio wave file is encoded to the designated format and sent over to the destination end, similar to QOM testing. However, on the receiving side, the system will only count the packets and check for loss and jitter. It is not decoding the received packets back to audio for comparison. This is the major difference between the two.
