Spirent TestCenter: How do I configure 1 Gigabit Copper to Auto-MDI/MDIX and Flow Control using the TestCenter MII Registers Advanced and use in the Command Sequencer?

Answer

There is a field to choose "enable Auto-MDI/MDIX" on the "Port - Ethernet General" Tab on the TestCenter CM 1 Gigabit Copper card.

For other cards, please follow these instructions:

  • On the Port – Ethernet Advanced Tab – Port Setup Apply Mode select General/Advanced Ethernet Parameters only and click to Apply
  • -> Configure your current Registers Advanced
  • STC - On the Port – Ethernet Advanced Tab – Port Setup Apply Mode select MII Registers Only (Developer Mode)
  • For Auto-MDI/MDIX
    • STC - On the Registers Advanced Tab change register 16 from default MDI (Disable Automatic MDI Crossover) 4001 to 0001 (Please reference Attachment)
  • For Flow Control
  • STC - On the Registers Advanced Tab change register 4 from 01E1 to 0DE1
  • Note: For Auto-Negotiating Speeds and Duplexes other that 1 Gigabit, takes similar steps in FAQ10222 to configure MII registers, however instead change the highest order bits in the register 4 second hex value from 00 to 11 as described:
  • First change register 9 to 0, then change register 4 as described prior to changing register 0 to 1340:
    • For 100 M full 01E1 for flow control is changed to 0DE1
    • For 10 M full 0061 for flow control is changed to 0C61
    • For 100 M half 00E1 for flow control is changed to 0CE1
    • For 10 M half 0021 for flow control is changed to 0C21
  • Click Apply
  • -> Verify the connectivity speed on Ethernet General Tab – Auto-Negotiation Status
  • Note: feature Auto-MDI/MDIX works ONLY when auto negotiation is enabled.
  • Auto-MDI/MDIX and/or Flow Control MII registers can be saved as a template and called from the Command Sequencer with the L2Test: Load Template Command. (please review attached document that demonstrates)
