Spirent TestCenter: Why Spirent TestCenter permanent license does not work in third test card?

The issue could exists in a specific situation. Let say the STC could be a SPT-11U (obsolete chassis by now - January 2020), SPT-N11U or SPT-N12U, and there are five test cards in the chassis (any card number >2), and the all permanent licenses have been succesfully installed.

The first two cards can be used to test. In the meanwhile, if test with the rest cards (all at the same time), there will be an error message showing the license is missing:
License Check: Failed to validate 0001_PACKET_GEN_ANALYZER_BPK_A
License Check: Chassis missing valid “0001_PACKET_GEN_ANALYZER_BPK_A” License.
 
 

Actually, the permanent license is right there.
 
 
enlightenedIn case you noticed that 0001_PACKET_GEN_ANALYZER_BPK_A version date could be "out-to-date", be aware the version date under SPIRENT SOFTWARE ENTITLEMENT "overwrites" it.
 
Answer

 

  • The issue could be due to the license is 2PK MOD which it enables only 2 supported modules in chassis.
    • This could be caused more likely because originally the license was initially from an N4U chassis (2 modules only) and after upgrading to a N11U/N12 chassis the license has been transferred to these new chassis.
      • For those upgrade the license should have ben upgraded to support the whole N11U/N12U cards - You can reach the sales team to get help about this particular behavior.
 
How can I validate if the license is 2PK MOD?
 
  • You can check the .lic file, search for STYPE under PACKET_GEN_ANALYZER_BPK_A section:

STYPE=2 enables only 2 supported modules in chassis.

Just delete the first “0001_PACKET_GEN_ANALYZER_BPK_A” license which STYPE is 2.
