  • GSS 7700 / 7735 / 7790
  • GSS 7800 / 7900
  • GSS 8000
  • STR 4500

Answer

This depends on the model of simulator that you own.

1. Simulator models that DO NOT allow additional channels to be added

  • GSS4100 / GSS6100
    • Supports 1 bank of channels, GPS/SBAS L1.
    • The bank is fixed to provide a single channel.
  • GSS4200
    • Supports 1 bank of channels, GPS/SBAS L1.
    • The bank is fixed to provide 6 channels.
  • STR4500 / GSS6560
    • Supports 1 bank of channels, GPS/SBAS L1.
    • The bank is fixed to provide 12 channels.
  • GSS6300 (single channel platform)
    • Supports 3 banks of channels, per chassis
    • GPS/SBAS L1 + GLONASS L1 + [Galileo E1 or BeiDou B1]  (all four constellations requires 2 chassis)
    • Each bank is fixed to provide a single channel (GSS6300)
    • Unique 'feature keys' allow the user to enable which banks are activated in the unit.
    • It is not possible to simulate a constellation type on more than one bank
  • GSS6300M / GSS6700 (multi-channel platforms)
    • Supports 3 banks of channels, per chassis
    • GPS/SBAS L1 + GLONASS L1 + [Galileo E1 or BeiDou B1]  (all four constellations requires 2 chassis)
    • Each bank is fixed to provide 4 or 8 channels (GSS6300M), 12 channels (GSS6700)
    • Unique 'feature keys' allow the user to enable which banks are activated in the unit.
    • Additional software licence permissions will enable QZSS L1 on the GPS bank
    • It is not possible to simulate a constellation type on more than one bank
  • GSS7735
    • Supports 2 banks of channels, GPS/SBAS L1 + L2.
    • Each bank is fixed to provide 4 channels.

2. Simulator models that DO allow additional channels to be added

  • STR4750 / GSS7700 L5
    •  supports 1 bank of channels, GPS/SBAS L5. The bank will accept 1 to 4 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 16 channels.
  • STR4760 / GSS7700 L1/L2
    •  supports 2 banks of channels, GPS/SBAS L1 + GPS L2. Each bank will accept 1 to 4 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 16 channels.
  • STR4780
    •  supports 1 bank of channels, GLONASS L1. The bank will accept 1 to 3 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 12 channels
  • STR4790 / GSS7790
    • supports 2 banks of channels, GPS/SBAS L1 + GPS L2. Each bank will accept 1 to 3 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 12 channels.
  • GSS7800
    •  supports 3 banks of channels, Galileo E1 + E5 + E6. Each bank will accept 1 to 4 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 16 channels.
  • GSS7900
    • supports 3 banks of channels, GPS/SBAS L1 + Galieo E1 + Galileo E5. Each bank will accept 1 to 4 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 16 channels.
  • GSS8000 (single antenna unit)
    • supports 3 banks of channels. Each bank will accept 1 to 4 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 16 channels.
  • GSS8000 (dual antenna unit)
    • supports 4 banks of channels. Each bank will accept 1 to 3 channel cards, i.e. 4 to 12 channels.

NOTES:

  1. You can only add channel cards to an 'existing' bank within the simulator. A single channel card provides 4 channels.
  2. You cannot create a new bank of channels without returning the simulator to Spirent for upgrade.
  3. You cannot transplant channel cards from one bank to another or from one simulator to another without invalidating the calibration of the unit and causing likely conflicts between the simulator configuration and the configuration file installed with PosApp (SimGEN) software
  4. If you believe you have a fault with a channel card please check the Knowledge Base for articles relating to the error / warning messages reported by the simulator. Otherwise, contact Spirent Applications Support for further assistance - support@spirent.com
  5. If you wish to purchase additional channels for your simulator please contact your local Spirent sales representative.
