Umetrix Data: What Does the 95% Confidence Interval Statistic Mean?
Answer
The confidence interval is the range in which you expect the actual population mean to fall regardless of how many times the test is repeated.
The narrower the confidence interval, the more certain the collected data sufficiently represents the device performance
For example, consider a test population with mean = 100, 95% confidence interval = 20. There is a 95% chance the population mean falls between 80 and 120 for any similar test on the device.
Spirent recommends collecting enough samples so confidence interval falls within 10% of the mean.
