VisionWorks PM: What do errors in the Collection Status of VisionWorks PM indicate?

Environment/Versions
VisionWorks PM all revs
Answer

Here is list of common error messages that appear in VisionWorks PM Collection Status window as Red indicators.  This is not a complete list.  In cases where: "SHUTDOWN(5 consecutive collection errors):" appears, the collections type has been turned off by the system.  Refer to the VisionWorks PM User and Admin Manual for additional information on automatic shutdown of collections.

  • SHUTDOWN(5 consecutive collection errors): CONN-TACC-ETH got a DENY (IIDT) /* Invalid Value For <type> in block=<type>
Indicates switch is built wrong in VisionWorks PM or Resource is built wrong in STCLive T&D.  Check the setup of the switch in VisionWorks PM and the Resource in VisionWorks T&D, correct as needed.
  • No data setup for <MODULE> configuration.
Module will be the type of test being executed, such as NETQ-IP, NETQ-MAC, TWAMP, EOAM, ETHDM, PING, VIDEO.
Indicates there are no services in VisionWorks PM for that switch.  Note:  If there is an IPV4 and IPV6 source address specified in the switch, there needs to be at least one IPV4 and one IPV6 service for this switch or you will get this error.
  • SHUTDOWN(5 consecutive collection errors): CONN-TACC-ETH got a DENY (SNVS) /* Test session override not allowed */
Indicates access attempt failed because another test session was active using the TSN that ESCOUT was attempting to use.   Restart collections.   If does not resolve check probe for hung access and release.

  • Testing stopped: command timed-out at /spirent/metro/escout/scripts/HclInterface.pm line 87
This is message reported when collections are stopped by a user or 24hr cycle.

  • SHUTDOWN(5 consecutive collection errors): Connect failed to host 12.122.122.11 on port 7010
Indicates cannot communicate with the STCLive Probe at the specified IP Address.

  • SHUTDOWN(5 consecutive collection errors): CONN-TACC-ETH got a DENY (SROF) /* LOSS OF SIGNAL ON PORT 1 */
Indicates Loss of Signal on the specified Port.  Verify cabling and configuration is correct between the VisionWorks Probe and the Switch.

Here is list of common error messages that appear in VisionWorks PM Collection Status window as Yellow indicators.  This is not a complete list.

  • Unable to resolve target address.
This indicates the probe did not receive the acknowledgement (probe sends a SYN and reflector returns a SYN ACK) for the initial TCP negotiations (ServerGreeting in RFC terms) before the timeout is reached (timeout in VisionWorks PM Switch setup).
For single stream or some streams, verify the target address is correct and verify there is not a routing problem.  Routing problem on the reflector is a common problem.

If this is happening to all streams being tested, the test will continuously restart.  In this case problem will be either:
    • The Resource is built incorrectly in VisionWorks T&D.  Be sure to verify the correct South Bound TAP (Port) is setup.
    • The Switch is built with incorrect IP, Gateway, Mask information in VisionWorks PM.
    • There is a problem with the cabling between the Probe and the Switch.  Port on probe is not going to correct port on the Switch.
    • The configuration of the port on the Switch is not correct.

  • Server TCP Connect Failed.
Indicates the test cannot reach the target.  For single stream or some streams, verify the target address is correct and verify there is not a routing problem.   If this is happening to all streams being tested, the test will continuously restart.  In this case problem can be either:
    •  The Resource is built incorrectly in VisionWorks T&D.  Be sure to verify the correct South Bound TAP (Port) is setup.
    • The Switch is built with incorrect IP, Gateway, Mask information in VisionWorks PM.
    • There is a problem with the cabling between the Probe and the Switch.  Port on probe is not going to correct port on the Switch.
    • The configuration of the port on the Switch is not correct.
    • All targets are not reachable (new turnup perhaps).

  • Arp Failed.
Indicates the test cannot reach the target.  For single stream or some streams, verify the target address is correct and verify there is not a routing problem.   If this is happening to all streams being tested, the test will continuously restart.  In this case problem will be either:

    • The configuration of the port on the Switch is not correct.

To identify services that are causing errors reference SOL12047.

Please notify TAC of additional errors you would like added to this list.
