Spirent TestCenter: How can I advertise IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes using only IPv6 STC emulated devices on BGP?(RFC 5549)

Environment/Versions
  • BGP
  • IPv4 prefixes
  • IPv6 Next Hops
  • RFC 5549
Answer
  • Create the IPv6 devices on Spirent TestCenter Application and set the BPG configuration to match the one on your DUT and validate that the BGP session gets established.
  • On Spirent TestCenter Application, under All Devices go to BGP tab and set the following configurations:
AFI/Sub-AFI IPv6: Unicast
NLRI AFI/Sub-AFI/NextHop AFI IPv4: Unicast:IPv6

You can set this configuration by clicking on the ellipsis button at any field of the AFI/Sub-AFI and/or NLRI AFI/Sub-AFI/NextHop AFI columns.

Then you can configure the BGP routes; please follow the steps below:
Hit the Edit Routes… button at the top menu.

Under the IPv4 Routes configure:
  • 29K routes; this is at the Network Count per Router column.
  • At the Start Network column, configure the first IPv4 prefix you will advertise.
  • Set the Next Hop Addr Type as IPv6, and configure the Next Hop IPv6 address.

Open the IPv6 Routes tab, and configure:
  • 1K routes at the Network Count column.
  • At the Start Network column, configure the first IPv6 prefix you will advertise.
  • At the Next Hop column, configure Next Hop IPv6 address.

The routing table should show both routes, IPv4 and IPv6
