Spirent TestCenter: How to reboot a chassis in a sync chain?
Environment/Versions
If we have 1 master chassis and 'n' slave, what is recommended order of upgrade/reboot if we have to perform maintenance?
Spirent TestCenter
Chassis chain
Answer
In a chain you’ll have the master (chassis1) -> slave (chassis2) -> … -> slave (end chassis X).
Chassis should be rebooted in order (must be top down in the order they are chained), starting from master, then chassis2, chassis3, …, the end chassis.
The first chassis should fully boot, controller LEDs should indicate master and in sync.
Once up, reboot chassis2 and wait till it fully boots and indicates slave and in sync, …
Only after all chassis are up and in sync, user can go ahead a reserve a port.
Once chassis and cards are in sync, a test module reboot or reserve/release will not make it go out of sync.
If a chassis is rebooted and not followed the procedure above, all chassis/cards in the entire chain may not be in sync.
