How do I refresh the LCD display on my GNSS simulator after it has gone blank?

Answer

This article relates to the following simulator models:

  • STR4730 / 4750 / 4760 / 4780 / 4790
  • GS7700 / 7730 / 7790 / 7800 / 7900

When the simulator is left powered on but not running any tests the LCD will eventually go into a 'stand-by' mode. As soon a scenario is started the LCD display will light up again as normal.

But if you wish to view details on the LCD without having to start a scenario you can use the IEEE/IP String Send Utility, installed with PosApp (SimGEN) software, to send the command = LCDP -1

  1. Ensure the simulator is powered on and connected to the host PC
  2. Start the utility
        - Use PosApp (SimGEN) menu [Tools-->4750/60/80/90 Utilities-->IEEE String Send] or [Tools-->7xxx/8xxx Utilities-->IEEE String Send] ; OR
        - Go to folder "C:\Program Files\Spirent Communications\Positioning Application" and find "IEEE_string_send.exe"; OR
        - Via the START menu [START-->All Programs-->Positioning Application-->IEEE Utilities-->IEEE String Send Utility]
  3. Set the IEEE address in the utility to match the simulator you're using
  4. Type the command LCDP -1 into one of the numbered fields and hit the enter key (or click the numbered button beside the field)
