In most systems when an external SATA drive is connected the Desktop has a folder called "Ext.drive" in which you should be able to see the files on the external SATA drive. In some systems however, if the Desktop shortcut is not present, you will find the External drive by using the file manager and looking in the /media/ext_drive directory.
