Possitioning Application: What causes the message "Warning: 'GSS6560#0 is not on the USB bus'"?

Environment/Versions
  • PosApp (SimGEN / SimREPLAYplus / SimREPLAY)
Answer

  • The above warning message is caused by not having a valid sig_gen.txt file in the PosApp directory
    • "C:\Program Files\Spirent Communications\Positioning Application"
  • The above pop-up error message may also be followed by "Cannot connect to GSS6560 signal generator" in the message Log window

To resolve this:-

  1. Close PosApp
  2. Locate a copy of the sig_gen.txt file provided by Spirent
        - A "Customer Specific Files" CD will have been provided with the shipment
        - Otherwise contact Spirent Global Services using the 'Submit a Service Request' link on the right hand side of the Knowledge Base screen
                - Supply the model and serial number of your simulator
  3. Copy the file to the PosApp root directory = "C:\Program Files\Spirent Communications\Positioning Application"
  4. Restart PosApp.
  • Note that the first time you start PosApp it will state that the "default" hardware configuration could not be found - see Figure 2.
  • This is normal and is the result of having copied the real sig_gen.txt file to the PosApp root directory.
    • You may ignore the message.

  • A unit with serial number "0" is an internal default hardware configuration used when no sig_gen.txt file can be found
