Spirent TestCenter: How to test Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) blocked port?
Environment/Versions
Spirent TestCenter
Spanning Tree
Blocking state
Loop
Answer
See attached STP document for a simple setup.
Screen shots in doc is from older Spirent TestCenter GUI but should still be able to follow the information given.
Additional question is how to test an STP ring topology.
The information about Custom below will help understand how to set this up.
Setup 2 Devices one per port to run STP and have 1 device advertise the root bridge with “Custom” rather than Self ( this way it will look like it is advertising the Root which is behind the device).
Then set the Root MAC address to the desired address with a Root Priority of 4096 and Root Path Cost to the desired value.
The DUT (Switch) should see the
Root
Bridge
out this port and then set the root port accordingly.
