Umetrix Voice: How is the Umetrix Voice Hardware Calibrated for Voice Quality Testing?

Answer

We recommend calibrating the Umetrix Voice hardware prior to testing for the first time to verify proper operation. To calibrate the system:

  • Connect the provided Calibration Cable between Channel 1 and Channel 2 on the Umetrix Voice unit.
  • On the Test Setup screen, configure Channel 1 as a Mobile task with the following settings:
    • Session → Uplink Device: Base task on channel 2
    • Channel Settings → Audio interface for this channel: Analog Interface
    • Channel Settings → Input Level: 225
    • Channel Settings → Output Level: 180
    • Channel Settings → Microphone Detect Mode: 180
  • On the Test Setup screen, configure Channel 2 as a Base task with the following settings:
    • Session → Downlink Device: Base task on channel 1
    • Channel Settings → Audio interface for this channel: Analog Interface
    • Channel Settings → Input Level: 225
    • Channel Settings → Output Level: 180
    • Channel Settings → Microphone Detect Mode: 180
  • Start a new test. The resulting MOS values for Channel 1 and Channel 2 should be 4.542 or higher, representing perfect audio. If this is the case, the unit has passed.
  • Connect the Calibration Cable between Channel 3 and Channel 4 on the Umetrix Voice unit and repeat the test.

In the formatted Umetrix Voice output report generated with calibration test data, find results for audio received at Channel 1 in the Channel 1 – DL area. Find results for audio received at Channel 2 in the Channel 1 – UL area
