REACT, STCLive: What work is involved if I change the HOSTNAME and IP Address of the spirent servers

Environment/Versions
  • REACT any version
  • STClive Any version
  • Gateway Any version
Answer

This provides information for only the noted application.  This does not include changes needed for the OS.  You should contact your OS Admin and Network Admin for changing the IP address on the server and in the DNS.
It will a be lot less risky and lot less effort if we can keep the hostname the same and just change only the IP addresses.  Lots of work needs to be done if the hostname is changed.  If the hostname is to be change we will need to coordinate with DBA and UNIX admins for all the changes needed in ROOT and Informix files.  A Procedure (MOP) will have to be made just like when we do our upgrades.  Here are the examples of files to be modified if the hostname is changed:

Files to modify from old to new hostnames (only off the top of my head)

REACT:

Directory: /hekimian/react-2001/system/data/
Files:
center
config.sys
dialog_usage
foreign_rtu.config
HDI2001_region
logicals_cur
services
swa_routing
swa_site_server

File: /etc/react-2001/logicals

File: /hekimian/react-2001/system/diversity/PRIMARY/configuration
Note: this file is used for database diversity.  It will contain the name or IP of the "other" REACT server.

Informix

The Resource and Circuit database may need to be modify if the Network Elements or Circuits contain the REACT hostname.
File: $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts

Gateways:

Config.txt
Library.txt
Informix.cfg
LICENSES

TCL (STCLive)
DBhost
XCLI hosts
Dumpling resources
Metroservices
Metro.env
MetroDB
Informix sqlhosts

My two cents, if we can keep the hostname as it is, lets keep it.  If it must be changed, then an extensive MOP for each product will have to be created.
