Spirent TestCenter: Why is the QoS byte value different from DSCP value?

Environment/Versions
  • Spirent TestCenter
  • Ver 4.20
Answer
  • If set the DSCP value as decimal 10 then the QoS value will be hex 28
  • This is due to there 2 bits at the end of this byte which are currently unused.
  • In RFC 2474, The DS field structure is presented below:

            0   1   2   3   4   5   6   7
          +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+
          |         DSCP          |  CU   |
          +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

            DSCP: differentiated services codepoint
            CU:   currently unused
