VR5:Windows Update KB3072630 could stop installation of VR5 Software

Answer

Recently Microsoft released a Windows Security Update which affects VR5 software installation for the remote GUI.

Note that this is not an issue with the installation on the embedded PC. Basically it prevents windows installers from being hijacked by malicious sources during installation.
This manifest itself with our installation software - VR5 where it prevents our installers from updating the respective registry required for proper functionality.

Note:

1, For Spirent configured PC (normally comes with per sales), it shouldn’t be a concern since inside our image, we already should disable windows update.
2, This mostly will apply when customer use their own PC to deploy remote VR5 GUI.

Following below steps to undo this fix and continue to install VR5 software.

To temporarily undo the security fix in KB 3072630, follow these steps:
1, Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2, Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Note:  If this subkey does not exist, create it.
3, On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4, For the DWORD name, type RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy, and then press Enter.
5, Right-click RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy, and then click Modify.
6, In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7, Install the required application.
8, After the application installs successfully, reset the RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy DWORD value to 0 to re-enable the security fix for KB 3072630.
