Spirent TestCenter: What is interarrival time?

Environment/Versions
  • How is inter-arrival time measured?
Answer
  • Interarrival time is the receive time of consecutively received packets.
  • It is affected by frame length and load.
  • (Frame length + minimum IFG + preamble ) * 8 (to convert to bits) / load rate = Inter-arrival time.
  • ((Frame length + 12 + 8 ) * 8 ) / load rate = Inter-arrival time.
    • Example: for 128 byte frames at 100G rate.
      • (128 + 12 + 8 ) * 8 / 100G = 11.84 ns
      • (148*8) / 100g = 11.84ns
      • 1,184 / 100,000,000,000 = 0.00000001184 = 11.84ns
