Windows 7 support for Spirent GNSS systems has ceased

Further to the announcements made in 2018 (NWS10171) and 2019 (NWS10196), support for Windows 7 by Spirent's positioning and navigation products has now ended.

This comes after extensive evaluation and testing of the replacement Operating System, Windows 10, and is in accordance with our Advanced Life Cycle Management (ALM) process. The retirement of Windows 7 will not affect your eligibility for technical support. Software running on Windows 7 systems will continue to work for the duration of your product licence, however, your system may be vulnerable to security threats in the absence of Windows updates.

Who is affected?
  • Customers using any of the following Spirent GNSS software on a Windows 7 based controller or embedded host
    • SimGENTM, SimREPLAYplusTM, SimTESTTM, SimSCUTM, SimCLASSTM, SimSAASTM, SimMCODETM, SimREMOTETM, SimSAFETM, Sim3DTM, SimAUTOTM, SimCHANTM, SimINERTIALTM or SimSENSORTM
  • Customers using Spirent GNSS software on Windows 10 based systems are unaffected
What does this mean?
  • All Positioning software released after January 2020 will be tested and qualified for use with Windows 10, only
  • Software installers for new releases should be considered incompatible with Windows 7 based systems
    • Although this configuration may still work, Spirent offers no guarantees for the system's stability and performance
    • If you encounter an issue whilst running an incompatible configuration, Spirent advises you to upgrade to a compatible configuration prior to requesting assistance
  • Customers are required to upgrade to Windows 10 to utilise software updates released after January 2020
  • Fixes to software defects will only be released for use with Windows 10, irrespective of the Operating System they were identified in
What do I need to do?
  • If you have a system using a Windows 10 controller or embedded host, you do not need to do anything; you will remain able to install future software releases for the duration of your product licence
  • If you have a system using a Windows 7 controller or embedded host provided by Spirent, and it is under an active support agreement, you will receive a free upgrade package
    • If you have not already received your upgrade package and believe you are eligible, please email support@spirent.com
  • If you have a system using a Windows 7 controller not provided by Spirent and your system is under an active support agreement, you will need to source your own Windows 10 Professional Edition (64-bit) controller. This will NOT be covered by your support agreement, however, Windows 10 compatible software will be provided
    • If you have not already received your software update and believe you are eligible, please email support@spirent.com
  • If for any reason your IT policy prohibits the use of Windows 10, unfortunately, software releases after January 2020 will not be compatible with your system
  • If you have a system using a Windows 7 controller or embedded host which is not under an active support agreement, you will not be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 10 nor able to run software updates released after January 2020
