A transport stream that offers more than one program is called a Multiple Program Transport Stream; A transport stream that offers just one program is called a Single Program Transport Stream (SPTS). Some of the components to MPTS are:

 

PID = Packet ID

CC = Continuity Counter

PCR = Program Clock Reference

 

PID - Each Table or elementary stream is identified by a PID. A de-multiplexer will use PIDs to reassemble a stream.

 

PCR - Used to keep the audio and the video of a program in sync.

 

CC - Used to count the packets as they come in. This can be used to identify missing packets or Out of Order packets.
