Spirent TestCenter: Are there any intermediate releases of Spirent Testcenter I need to go through when upgrading/downgrading from an older/a newer version?

Answer

Locate where the Spirent TestCenter version is currently at in the "timeline" below and then continue upgrading until you reach your target version.

  •  Please use the higher version GUI to perform any upgrading or downgrading

* It is very important that when upgrading, especially to 2.32, that you must allow all of the test modules to boot up completely before upgrading any further.

Downgrade

  • Downgrade testing by Support from 4.66 directly down to 4.44 (and 4.36 in a separate test) was successful.
  • If you need to downgrade to lower than 4.36 and would like to have that tested before trying, please contact Support at support@spirent.com.

* The requirement to upgrade to 5.18 is due to some issues encountered in 5.24 release, this is why this is indicated within 5.24 release instead of 5.18.
** Due to a change in the 5.30 release, the user is required to perform a 3rd step when upgrading to, or downgrading from the 5.30 release. After the user upgrades to 5.18, the user will need to upgrade to one of these releases 1st, 5.26 thru 5.29. Once this upgrade is completed, the user can upgrade to 5.30.
Release upgrade process - 5.09 -> 5.18 -> 5.26 -> 5.30.
Release downgrade process - 5.30 -> 5.26 -> 5.18 -> 5.09.
  • Upgrading from 5.18.0406 to 5.31.1486 works with no error or any issue
  • Upgrading from 4.50 thru 4.56 -----> 4.57, need to use the 4.57 GUI.
    • I tried to use v5.22 GUI to upgrade from 4.52 to 4.57 but it fails due to missing yocto_signature file.
    • Apparently 4.57 doesn't look for the yocto_signature file where as v5.22 does.
    • Note that if the steps in this article was ignored, and upgrade jump was to large from an older version, a reimage to the new version may still have an issue.
      • reimage may need to be at the original version first, then do the upgrade steps in this article.
      • symptoms recently found:
        • chassis original had older version 4.42 but upgraded to 5.30 causing no access to chassis
        • reimage to 5.30 allowed ssh access but not GUI access
        • reimage back to 4.42 allowed GUI access and able to upgrade following this article
        • Note that in above symptoms that was found we also stopped at v5.04 due to Customer having older (obsoleted) modules
          • Some details:

    • using the 4.71 GUI, downgrade to 4.57 (v4.71 doesn't look for the yocto signature file)
    • using the 4.57 GUI, downgrade to 4.53
