Spirent TestCenter : How do I create iMix traffic in terms of load and frame sizes?

Environment/Versions
  • Spirent TestCenter
  • iMix
Answer
  • iMix by Frame size

Selecting 'iMix' distribution for frames while creating a streamblock.

  • iMix by Load percentage

Create individual streamblocks with desired load units and set the scheduling mode to "rate based" and enable "advanced interleaving"

Notes :
It is possible to calculate the total rate (FPS) when using iMix by "Frame Sizes" from calculating the average frame size and then calculating the rate at which to send the traffic.

Example : Here are the calculations for iMix with frame sizes 64 (61%), 594 (21%), 1518 (18%)

61% of the time is 64+20 = 84 byte frames
21% of the time is 594+20 = 614 byte frames
18% of the time is 1518+20 = 1538 byte frames

61*84 = 5124
21*614 = 12894
18*1538 = 27684

5124+12894+27684 = 45702
45702/100 = 457.02 byte average frame size
457*8 = 3656 bits

For a 1 Gig interface,
1,000,000,000/3656 = 273,522 fps would be the total rate of traffic
