Answer

Depending on you "old" version of software - it is recommended that you run your tests through the major versions of software. This only applies to the GUI and not the hardware. Your test are not affected by the Version that is on the hardware, until you run the test. Running your test on the hardware is not necessary when upgrading. Additionally some hardware is not compatible with the newer versions of software - please refer to the release notes for supported hardware when wanting to upgrade.

Let’s say you have a 2900 appliance (this is supported up to the current release 3.90 – (at the time of this article) you version is on 2.32, and you want to upgrade to 3.90 - here is how you should perform the upgrade.

You should first Archive your entire project and test Library - using the Export to archive wizard (found under the File Heading)

now install Versions 2.40 - import your Archived Project - once Imported - Export them again (it is suggested that with each exported Archive - you name the Archived projects with the version they were exported from as a best practice.
