Spirent TestCenter: How to change IGMP/MLD message rate when you are using RFC3918 multicast wizard to test multiple ports devices like switch?
Answer
When you are using RFC3918 to test multicast capability of multiple ports devices like a 16 or 24 ports switch, you may find the test are always fail, even you only test with 2 or 4 multicast groups.
The problem is not the device under test (DUT) cannot process 2 or 4 multicast groups, it's because the DUT cannot handle the IGMP/MLD message received from multiple ports that Spirent TestCenter emulates IGMP/MLD clients and send out IGMP/MLD messages at same time. If this is the case, you can try lower down the IGMP/MLD message send out rate of STC. How to to that? Please see attached document.
Another example:
Currently running 14K groups with 35 IGMP clients, all clients not seen as member in the DUT for last group.
The join rate may be too high for DUT to handle as mentioned in previously or
The join delay expired before all joins were sent. (This is a configuration on the Spirent Application)
