iTest: What are all the Environment Variables required for HPQC to work with iTest?

Environment/Versions
  • iTest
  • HPQC
  • Windows
Answer

To work with iTest and HPQC, First we need to set the enivironmental variables for HPQC. Below are the list of variables that we can set.

  • For Windows 64-bit OS and for Windows Server OS we need to set the first point and for other Windows OS we skip it.
    •  Open the Windows Command Prompt (Start > Accessories > Command Prompt). Run the set command to confirm the following two variable settings:
      • HOMEDRIVE=C:
      • HOMEPATH=\Documents and Settings\<userName -for example, Administrator>
    • On Start menu, right-click My Computer and select Properties. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
    • Add the HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH settings to the User Variables section.
    • In the System Variables section, use the HPQC_ITEST_WORKSPACE variable to specify the workspace. Do not surround the path with double quotes ("") even if the path contains spaces:
      • HPQC_ITEST_WORKSPACE=\Documents and Settings\<userName>\iTest_HPQC_Workspace
    • Restart the browser for the changes to take effect.
    • To include command-line arguments for the itestcli executable, type the text of the arguments in the environment variable HPQC_ITESTCLI_ARGS. For example, set the variable to -g to execute a GUI test case for Web or Swing
      • HPQC_ITESTCLI_ARGS= -g

Note:  If you do not specify a workspace in the environment variable, then Spirent iTest uses the “iTest_HPQC_Workspace” folder in the user’s home directory.
