Spirent TestCenter : Why is the port replying to ARP / ND requests even though no devices are configured?

Environment/Versions
  • Spirent TestCenter
  • ARP/ND
Answer

Even though devices are not configured, the raw streamblocks configured on the ports are capable of replying to NS via NA (Or echo request via an echo reply)

If the port receives a request with target address same as source address of the raw streamblock present on that port, the streamblock will reply if the encapsulation of request and streamblock matches

To get past this,

  • Change the source address of raw streamblock in this case if that is ok
  • Deactivate the streamblocks if that is ok, go to Settings-->Traffic tab and disable “Delete Inactive Streams from Memory” option so that the stream will be cleared from the test.
