iTest: What is the difference between WS-Security and Authentication options under Step properties in the Web Services session?

Environment/Versions

Answer
  • Authentication: This option provides different methods(None, basic and secure) to authenticate, depending on the level of functionality and security we want -
                                    1. Basic :User and Password
                                    2. Secure:User, Password, Keystore file and Keystore Password
  • WS-Security: If we are using Authentication type as Secure, we use WS-Security option under Step properties because WS-Security defines a SOAP Header element to carry security-related data which addresses security using existing standards and specifications i.e Authentication, Signatures and Encryption.

Note:Keystore file contains the private key certificate which are used to identify Web Services accounts to access API's. Keystore files in turn are protected by a password.
