Answer

Whenever you run a test, license validation occurs. If no license file is installed, or a required feature is not licensed, or if the license server cannot be accessed by Avalanche, an option displays to run in trial mode.

License Error Details
1.  Unable to verify license because of connection problem.  You may with to test your connection to
the chassis by pinging the administrative address, and/or launching the Spirent TestCenter application
and examining the Tools/Equipment Information dialog.

Trial mode provides access to all features, but limits your test duration to 100 seconds.

First check that your license server is reachable.

Check that your license is reachable

On Avalanche hardware, licenses reside on the hardware device (chassis).
Make sure you can refresh the device
Avalanche → Administration → Appliance, Virtual, Spirent TestCenter → <right-click device IP> → Refresh

On CyberFlood Virtual machines, licenses reside on the CyberFlood controller.  
The CyberFlood license is set in
Avalanche → Administration → Appliance, Virtual, Spirent TestCenter → Equipment → CyberFlood Licensing Configuration
Make sure you reach the CyberFlood controller through https://<CyberFlood controller>

Check that your license is not expired

To check you license, open Spirent TestCenter.  This is a separate application that is run outside of Avalanche Commander.

  1. Install Spirent TestCenter
     
    1. Log into the Spirent Customer Service Center (CRC)
      https://support.spirent.com
      Click "sign up" if you do not have a login
    2. Click on "Downloads" in the left pane
    3. Accept the export acknowledgement if you agree
    4. Choose Archived Release or General Release
      You will want the same version as your Avalanche Commander
    5. Choose Product Line: Spirent TestCenter
    6. Choose Categories: Applications
    7. If you chose Archived Release, click the Filter by Release dropdown and scoll to your version
    8. Choose Spirent TestCenter for Windows
    9. Click on the cloud icon to download Spirent TestCenter
    10. Install Spirent TestCenter
       
  2. Open Spirent TestCenter
     
  3. Close the initial Welcome to Spirent TestCenter Getting Started screen.
     
  4. Click Connect to Chassis and Reserve Ports
    If you cannot connect to your device, then your Avalanche license cannot be checked.  This would be the cause of the error.  Fix connectivity issues first.
    If you do have device (chassis) connectivity, continue onto the next step.
     
  5. Expand your device
    Click the plus icon to expand your device
    If your device is not listed, click Connect/Create, Connect to Physical/Virtual Chassis, and enter the IP of the device, then expand your device (your chassis)
     
  6. Select the IP and slot of your device

    Click OK
     
  7. Ignore any error
    You may see a port reservation error dialog box.
    Click OK
     
  8. Go to Tools → Licensing Management

     
  9. Expand your device
    Click the plus sign icon
     
  10. Look at the expiration column
    Check to see if you are licensed for the test your are running.
    If your licenses are expired, take screenshots of your license expirations and notify your Spirent account team.
