iTest : Flexlm error - Invalid hostid 000000000000 on SERVER line

Objective/Summary

 License server log shows the following error when Flexlm can’t find the MAC id of the machine as the network interface names are not in the standard format ethX.

Environment/Versions
  1. RHEL6
  2. Fedora15 
Procedure
  1. Check the host id by using the command “./lmutil lmhostid –ether”.
  2. If it returns all zeros, then we can confirm the Flexnet is finding the mac id of loopback interface.
  3. FLEXnet license manager only understand network interfaces starting with ethX and with network interface names like emX, pXpX, virbrX will return a null MAC address.
  4. We can revert back the network interface names by  following the below links and then verify the MAC id by re-running the “./lmutil lmhostid –ether”
