Mission Critical Services on 5G

Moving forward, more and more mission critical services will be deployed on 5G networks, including public safety, V2X, industrial applications and even remote surgery. Such services depend on a certain level of reliability and performance from the network. 3GPP has introduced features to support such services.

In Landslide 21.8 we introduce support for two such features: NF Sets & URLLC. Uninterrupted service delivery is a must for mission critical services. Redundancy must be built into the network to enable high service availability, beyond the traditional five 9s. One of the ways this is achieved is through NF Sets. There are multiple instances of the same NF. An important distinction from similar approaches in the past is that the different NF instances within a NF Set share service context information with each other. This is what ensures uninterrupted service under all conditions. Load balancing is another important objective achieved through NF Sets. Landslide 21.8 introduces NF Sets support for AUSF & UDM.
This release also introduces support for URLLC (Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication) in AMF Nodal test case. In addition to Redundant PDUs & QoS monitoring, and support for IPSec on N2/N3/N9 and N4 interfaces added to AMF and UPF nodal test cases.

The L5AP test packages continue to grow, with particular focus on the Security test package. Enhancements have also been made to user plane testing functionality with support for mobility with Fireball.

Release 21.8
Key New Features NF Sets:
  • Support NF Set/NF Service Set for UDM and AUSF emulation, and the SBI interfaces include N8 (AMF to UDM), N10 (SMF to UDM), N12 (AMF to AUSF) and N13 (AUSF to UDM).
  • Service Based Nodal, Service Based Node, AMF Node, SMF Nodal and SMF Node have been enhanced to support this.
URLLC:
  • Signaling support to establish redundant PDUs and setup QoS monitoring is added to AMF Nodal test case.
Slice Level Counters:
  • Adds option to report measurements under "SM", "SM Cause" and "NGAP Transfer Cause" tabs at network slice level.
  • This enables comparison of multiple slices from one instance of AMF Nodal.
Mobility with Fireball:
  • Adds support for fireball DMFs when Mobility mode is selected in the Test Configuration for AMF Nodal, SMF Nodal, MME Nodal.
