Spirent TestCenter Container Docker Quick Start Guide (5.07)

Summary

Spirent TestCenter can run in a Docker container expanding supported platforms and adding new use cases for cloud and embedded applications such running on a white box switch or other COTS platforms supporting containers.

Contents

  • Virtual Controller Setup
  • Installing Spirent TestCenter Container in Docker
  • Launching a Spirent TestCenter Container Instance
  • Using Spirent TestCenter GUI for STC Container Ports

Requirements

  • Refer to the release notes for a list of supported Linux distributions and versions
  • Docker 1.8.2 or higher must be installed on the host system
    • Note: Docker requires a Linux kernel version 3.10 or higher. If an earlier kernel is used, Docker may cause kernel panics.
  • All power saving (SpeedStep, C1 states, etc.) and turbo boost options should be disabled on the host system.  Running Spirent TestCenter with these options enabled on the host system may cause incorrect transmit and receive rates.
  • The Spirent TestCenter Docker container must be attached to a management bridge interface which will be used to communicate with the Spirent TestCenter BLL/GUI application.
  • The Spirent TestCenter Docker container requires additional functionality on the host that is not provided by the standard Docker application. This includes support for real-time thread scheduling and some network stack optimizations.  Spirent includes a launcher script which performs the necessary setup on the host.
