Keep Alive, also known as Persistence, allows multi HTTP1.1 transactions (Posts or Gets) to be performed within a single TCP connection by keep the connection open. This is the default behavior of browsers such as Internet Explorer (Netscape uses HTTP1.0 with Keep Alive).
