Spirent TestCenter: Link Discovery Mode setting - Why and where it is being used and for what purpose we need this?
Environment/Versions
Spirent TestCenter
LLDP
Link Discovery Mode setting
Answer
See Link Layer Discovery Protocol in
TRN10352
– it’s an exchange of information between STC and the DUT so user can easily see connection information.
Example snap shot below showing a DUT connected to STC but now you can see in the DUT console it shows the ports are connected to STC ports 10/1 and 10/2 and similarly on STC you can see its connected to DUT ports 3/17 and 3/18.
I guess it helps not having to trace cables.
LLDP messages are only sent when ports are unreserved.
