Positioning Application: Can SimGEN create a RINEX Observation File?

Environment/Versions
  • SimGEN
  • SimREPLAYplus
Answer
The answer is "Yes" but there are certain limitations since the software is not a receiver.
  • RINEX Observation files log the raw GPS observables as measured by a receiver. These measurements since they are "raw" still have the receiver clock bias component present in them. This bias is unknown to the software, so the values present in the created file have no bias present.
    • SimGEN uses a theoretical model taking into account specific values of receiver's properties:
      • BW - Receiver's front-end bandwidth: 4MHz
      • T = T0, T0 is the reference temperature and is set to 290K
    • To enable a RINEX Observation File go to the scenario tree "options", and select "RINEX output file" and then choose the required parameters.
      • See Section 8.9 "RINEX output file" in the SimGEN user manual for further information.
It is possible for the software to output a RINEX Navigation file since this data is derived wholly from simulation parameters
  • To produce a RINEX Navigation go to the "Motion", "Orbits" section of a constellation file and select "Save orbits to file"
